The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Social Sciences invites applications for the position of a Full Professor (W3) of Household Finance at the Institute of Financial Management to be filled in the winter semester 2027/28.

The successful candidate will be appointed as Full Professor and will represent the field of Household Finance in both research and teaching. The position offers an excellent opportunity to advance an independent research agenda in a dynamic and growing area of finance and to contribute to the continued development of the Faculty’s established Finance profile. Attractive opportunities for collaboration exist, particularly with chairs in Finance, Economics, and Data Science, as well as with related areas such as Business and Economics Education, Business Psychology, and Communication Science.

In research, candidates are expected to have an internationally visible profile in Household Finance, demonstrated by relevant publications in leading international journals. Their research agenda should contribute to the international Household Finance literature and be strongly empirical and quantitative in orientation. Particular emphasis is placed on expertise in microeconometric methods, causal inference, survey and experimental designs, panel data, digital behavioral data, and/or machine-learning-based analytical methods. Experience with, or clear potential for, acquiring competitive third-party funding is expected.

Possible research areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Saving, investment, pension, and borrowing decisions of households
  • Financial literacy, financial inclusion, and financial resilience
  • Behavioral determinants of household financial decision-making
  • Subjective expectations, risk perceptions, and information processing by households
  • Wealth accumulation, investment behavior, and financial inequality
  • Digital finance, FinTech, and algorithm-supported financial decision-making from a household perspective
  • Sustainable investment decisions by households and sustainable financial products
  • The effects of regulation, financial education, and economic policy measures on household financial decision-making

In teaching, the professorship is expected to strengthen and complement the Faculty’s existing teaching portfolio in its Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, particularly in Finance. This includes foundational courses as well as advanced courses, particularly courses taught in English, in areas such as Household Finance, Behavioral Finance, Personal Finance, Financial Literacy, or empirical methods in Finance, including courses for doctoral students. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the Faculty’s planned Bachelor’s program in “Economics, Finance and Data Science,” which will be taught in English.

The successful candidate has excellent command of English, and international applicants will be willing to learn German. For international applications, the successful candidate is expected to acquire German language skills within a reasonable period of time.

The position offers attractive conditions for first-time full professor appointees. Prerequisites for applicants are habilitation or an equivalent research and teaching record which may have been established during a Junior or Assistant Professorship. The University of Hohenheim is certified with the seal of approval for fair and transparent appointment procedures by the ‘German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV)’. Applicants are requested to consider the appointment criteria set out in the university's appointment guidelines, as these are also taken into account in the selection of candidates in the appointment procedure (https://www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/appointment-principles).

The advertised position is tenured. If appointed as full professor for the first time, the University of Hohenheim reserves its right to probationary employment. With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.

The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages female scientists to apply.

Please attach the following documents to your application:

a cover letter, a statement of your future research interests, a curriculum vitae, transcripts of records and degree certificates, a list of publications, a list of third-party funded projects, a teaching record, information on teaching evaluations as well as three key publications.
