The Department of Public Finance (Prof. Dr. Heiner Schumacher) at the University of Innsbruck is seeking to fill a position as a Research Associate (Ph.D. position) in the field of Applied Microeconomics.

The appointments will be for a period of 4 years (20 hours/week; extended to 30 hours/week upon submission of the “doctoral thesis agreement”), starting April 01, 2026 or by agreement. The successful candidate will join the Faculty of Economics and Statistics at the University of Innsbruck. The main tasks of the successful candidate are to conduct independent research in the field of Applied Microeconomics as well as limited teaching obligations and administrative support.

  • A close integration into the Faculty of Economics and Statistics as an international center of theory-based empirical and experimental research as well as into the interdisciplinary research area Economics, Politics & Society
  • Participation in the Ph.D. program of the Faculty (offered jointly by the University of Innsbruck and the University of Linz) and summer schools
  • Various opportunities to interact with other researchers and collaborate in international research projects

Your qualifications include:

  • A Master’s degree (to be completed upon start of the contract) in Economics or a related field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science)
  • Very good command of English; ability to teach in German
  • Social skills, teamwork abilities, communication skills

The starting salary before taxes for this position amounts to € 1.789 per month (paid 14 times per year) for an employment of 20 hours/week and accordingly € 2.683 per month (14 times) for an employment of 30 hours/week.
