Professor Philip Berger is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as full-time Research Professional for a period of at least one year, but ideally two years. The preferred start date is July 1, 2025, but the exact date is flexible.
Primary responsibilities include:
(a) Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing complex data; (b) building datasets and performing data analysis; (c) downloading, processing, and analyzing specialized datasets; (d) using textual analysis and topic modeling methods to characterize and analyze data; and (e) assisting faculty to identify, assess, and organize information addressing research goals. The position will primarily, but not exclusively, focus on topics related to economic questions related to how accounting and other information affects firm decisions and employee welfare, the effects of disclosure regulations, and labor market implications of both information transparency and new technologies (such as generative AI).
Knowledge, skills, and experience include: (a) Bachelor's degree required on start date, (b) computer skills (strong skills with statistical packages and programming, with familiarity with textual analysis and topic modeling a plus), (c) ability to work independently to solve problems, (d) long-term interest in pursuing research in accounting, economics, or finance, and (e) background in economics or statistics a plus but not required.
