In 2025, the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE, www.dice.hhu.de) will award a scholarship funded by the Meyer-Struckmann Foundation to scholars from Eastern and Southern Europe.

The Meyer-Struckmann Scholarship is intended for an economist from Eastern or Southern Europe who is no longer at the very beginning of their academic career but has already reached an advanced stage. The scholarship will commence in April 2025 and will last for two years. It will enable the recipient to join DICE and establish a research collaboration in one of DICE's areas of research. The scholar will receive a monthly grant of EUR 3,500 from the Meyer-Struckmann Foundation and will be provided with a workspace at DICE and access to the infrastructure necessary.

Background

DICE is Germany's leading academic centre for competition economics. In Europe, it ranks among the top three institutions in the field, alongside Toulouse (Toulouse School of Economics) and the Centre for Competition Policy (CCP) at the University of East Anglia. As a result, DICE is a sought-after host for visiting researchers.

While researchers from Western Europe and North America typically have access to funding for research stays abroad, this is significantly less the case for scholars from Eastern and Southern Europe. However, there is a strong academic interest in competition policy in these regions—one of the European Union’s most important policy fields—along with the desire to establish academic connections with Western Europe. The scholarship aims to bridge this gap for economists who play a multiplier role in their home countries.

Application

The selection of the scholar will be made by the DICE Board (www.dice.hhu.de) and the Scholarship Committee of the Faculty of Business and Economics (https://www.wiwi.hhu.de/struktur/kommissionen/stipendienkommission).

Please submit your application by 28 February 2025 to Dr Michael Coenen (coenen(at)dice.hhu.de).
