In 1966 the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) was founded as a research institution at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. IDS works to influence government officials and international policy makers through innovative research, and collaboration initiatives in developing countries around the world. More than 100 researchers, 65 professional staff members, 200 students, and 40 service staff members participate in IDS efforts at any given time.
