You are warmly invited to submit a pape for 3rd third annual Macro Development Workshop.

The Economics Discipline Group at Deakin University is organising the 3rd Macro Development Workshop in Melbourne, Australia from 9–10 July 2026.

This annual workshop aims to bring together researchers interested in macro-level development issues to share and discuss ideas, present research, and network with others who have similar interests.

The 2026 annual meeting will take place in Melbourne's Central Business District.

Keynote Speaker

We are delighted to announce that Professor Chang-Tai Hsieh from the University of Chicago will present the keynote address.

Chang-Tai Hsieh conducts research on growth and development. Hsieh has published several papers in top economic journals, including “How Destructive is Innovation,” in Econometrica, “The Allocation of Talent of U.S. Economic Growth,” in Econometrica, “The Life-Cycle of Plants in India and Mexico,” in the Quarterly Journal of Economics; “Misallocation and Manufacturing TFP in China and India,” in the Quarterly Journal of Economics; “Relative Prices and Relative Prosperity,” in the American Economic Review; “Can Free Entry be Inefficient? Fixed Commissions and Social Waste in the Real Estate Industry,” in the Journal of Political Economy; and “What Explains the Industrial Revolution in East Asia? Evidence from the Factor Markets,” in the American Economic Review.

Hsieh is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, Academia Sinica, the recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship, and a two times recipient of the Sun YeFang award from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Call for Papers

Full papers or extended abstracts in any area related to macro development are invited. Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. Please submit papers by email to macrodev.annual@gmail.com. The submission deadline is 1 May 2026. We will notify acceptance by 8 May 2026.
