The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has announced the winners of the 2025 IsDB Prize for Impactful Achievement in Islamic Economics.
The first prize was awarded to Medikids, with its innovative waqf* initiative addressing management challenges in Indonesia. The project leverages Medikid's dental clinics for children and families to generate sustainable funding, which in turn finances a scholarship for healthcare professionals and supports social welfare initiatives.
The committee decided to withhold second place.
The Blue Filter initiative, which created a prototype to purify water by removing harmful pollutants, received the third-place prize.
These awards will be presented at the IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Algiers, Algeria, between 19 and 22 May, 2025.
IsDB Group Chairman Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser praised the winners for their contributions to Islamic economics, emphasizing the importance of translating principles into actionable initiatives for economic development. The selection committee highlighted the sustainable and effective nature of both winning projects, recognizing their alignment with IsDB's strategic goals.
The IsDB Prize, established in 1998, initially focused on Islamic economics, banking, and finance. It expanded in 2020 to include categories of Development Achievement and Knowledge Contribution. The 2025 cycle emphasizes successful projects in IsDB member countries and Muslim communities globally.
*waqf is a type of charitable endowment in islamic law.
