Lore Vandewalle
The candidate will work directly with Professor Vandewalle and will be involved in new projects in Uganda, the DRC, or Kenya related to firm behavior and intra-household dynamics. The candidate will be introduced to frontier research and will become an integrated part of an international research team. The candidate will participate in survey design, fund applications, fieldwork (including project supervision and potential data collection), literature reviews, data analysis (mainly using STATA), and writing.
The position is a full-time commitment that combines research work with learning activities and is ideal for a recent graduate interested in doing a PhD in Economics. The appointment begins September 1, 2025, and is renewable for a second year based on mutual agreement.
The work will familiarize the Pre-Doctoral Fellow with the literature on Development Economics. It offers a range of on-the-job learning opportunities and the possibility of acquiring many skills necessary to conduct independent research in applied economics.
The pre-doctoral fellow will be part of the Development Economics Research group and will have access to all the seminars and academic and social activities at the economics department and KU Leuven.
Basic Qualifications
Applicants should complete (or have completed) a Master’s with excellent grades in Economics or another quantitative field. Candidates with research experience are strongly preferred.
