At the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Science in Economics (100 %, pay grade 13 TV-L) is to be occupied from 1 October 2024. The employment is initially limited for a period of 3 years with an option for prolongation. The position is part of the DFG-funded project „Explaining nonresponse and countering nonresponse bias in self-administered panel surveys“ with a strong focus on the application and further development of causal machine learning methods.

The vacant position is part of the DFG-funded project „Explaining nonresponse and countering nonresponse bias in self-administered panel surveys“ with a strong focus on the application and further development of causal machine learning methods. The project is carried out in cooperation with GESIS/Leibniz Institute for Social Science and University of Hamburg. The employment is initially limited for a period of 3 years with an option for prolongation. It is a qualification position in the sense of the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG), intended to support the employee‘s scientific development.

Your tasks:

• Development and application of causal machine learning methods

• Design and evaluation of experiments to increase participation in panel surveys

• Close cooperation with all participating institutions

• Conducting own research and publishing in international leading journals and presentations at international conferences

Our requirements:

• A completed scientific university education (M.Sc./M.A./Diploma/Magister) in the field of Econometrics, Data Science, Statistics

• A doctoral degree in Econometrics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field with a strong background in machine learning

• Proficiency in statistical programming with R and/or Python

• Strong interest in the development and application of new statistical methodology

• Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers from different fields

• Knowledge of causal inference and prior experience in causal machine learning are a plus

• Experience with the analysis of survey data (e.g. panel surveys) is a plus

• Good communication skills in English (knowledge of German is a plus)

The pay scale grouping will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade 13 TV-L.

In principle, the employment can also take place part-time, if no compelling official reasons are opposed in an individual case.
