The Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes (htw saar) is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Germany with more than 6,000 students at the schools for Architecture and Civil Engineering, Engineering, Social Sciences and Business. The htw saar has an international focus (successful completion of the Internationalization Reaudit, consortium leader of the German University Consortium for International Cooperations (DHIK)); it is a member of the European University Association and has a network of more than 50 international university partnerships. The university offers twelve international degree programs with the Université de Lorraine as part of the Franco-German Institute for Technology and Business (DFHI/ISFATES).
The Business School seeks to fill the following position as soon as possible:
W2 Professorship of International Economics (reference code 13).
The appointee will represent the field of International Economics in teaching and applied research. Candidates are expected to have appropriate qualifications in teaching and research along with international professional experience with a focus on International Trade or International Finance.
Primary responsibilities include teaching in the Business and Economics programs, mainly in English. Suitable candidates will also actively participate in basic business courses at the Bachelor level. Active involvement in the further development of the faculty and the university is also expected. Strong collaborative skills and a desire to engage in interdisciplinary work across multiple areas are additional prerequisites.
Due to advancing internationalization many courses are offered in a foreign language, which is why candidates must be able to present fluently in both German and English. Additional language skills in French and/or another world language would be beneficial, as would proof of international contacts and experience. Active involvement in applied research in the relevant field of expertise is desired along with interdisciplinary partnerships and the ability to apply innovative forms of teaching and learning in higher education. The htw saar’s applied education and research concept requires a high level of presence from teachers at the university’s physical location.
In addition to the general conditions of employment and budgetary prerequisites, the recruitment and appointment requirements of the Saarland Higher Education Institutions Act (Saarländisches Hochschulgesetz (SHSG)) also apply:
- a completed university degree,
- pedagogical aptitude, which generally must be demonstrated by experience in teaching or training and participation in further education and training in higher education teaching,
- special qualifications for research work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate and
- special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods gained during at least five years of professional practice, at least three of which must have been spent outside academia in a field corresponding to the subject to be taught.
Candidates who meet the necessary prerequisites under German civil service law may qualify for a lifetime appointment.
Beyond teaching and applied research, responsibilities include participating in academic reform and student advising tasks along with self-management.
As part of the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men and the legal requirement to eliminate the under-representation of women within the scope of the existing plan for the advancement of women, the university is particularly interested in receiving applications from female candidates. Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration if they are equally suited for the position. Candidates are encouraged to provide information on volunteer service.
Applications with curriculum vitae, academic career, a description of activities and employment within and outside the university sector, copies of certificates, a list of publications, a brief concept outlining possible focal points in teaching, research and transfer, an overview of university teaching as well as the short profile for applicants on our website at https://www.htwsaar.de/stellenausschreibungen may be sent solely in electronic form quoting the reference code by May 22, 2022 to email@example.com.
