Research Fellow in the area of Empirical Banking and Finance Location: Varese (Italy) Position: Full-time, temporary position (1 year) Closing Date: July 5th, 2024 (12:00 am, Italian time) Job ID:DIECO2024-ADR003 The Department of Economics (Dipartimento di Economia, DiECO uninsubria.it at the University of Insubria has a Research Fellow position in Banking and Finance.
The Fellowship is part of the PRIN Project (Project of Relevant National Interest). The position is for one year and the research area is empirical corporate finance and banking.
Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will conduct research activities related to analysis of whether and how ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) ratings affect access of companies to external financing and their capital structure, and how the dimensions of ESG fit into portfolio strategies of banks.
The research fellow will carry out activities such as database construction, data analysis, drafting of scientific papers, as well as assisting with the organization of workshops and other tasks associated with the PRIN Project.
Qualification requirements
The ideal candidate should have the following:
- a completed Ph.D. degree (or be enrolled in a Ph.D. program) in the area of finance, financial economics, economics, econometrics, statistics, or another quantitative field.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree and some years of relevant professional experience in areas related to the call will also be considered.
- good skills in data analysis and application of quantitative methods good command of statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python, Matlab)
- experience in designing and building datasets and databases;
- knowledge of financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Orbis, Bankfocus, Orbis M&A)
- Proficiency in English, written and verbal, is required (knowledge of Italian is NOT a requirement).

Administrative office of the University can provide assistance to the research fellow with housing, health services, transportation, etc
