INOMICS goes CO2 Neutral

11 Academia Networks, the company behind INOMICS, the career and education site for economics, has launched a Green Initiative for 2020.
The aim of the initiative is to understand and reduce our environmental impact as a company. Not only do we believe as a management team and as a company that this is the “right thing to do”, we also believe that it contributes to a positive corporate culture, motivating our team and reinforcing our image as a reliable and responsible partner for our customers.
The initiative grew organically from multiple sources in the company. Following several good ideas from team members from different departments, CEO Andreas Hoffmann brought the issue to the management level, initially with a focus on reduction of CO2.
Since then it has expanded in Q1 2020 to cover the following areas:
- Internal CO2 audit and reduction
- CO2 Compensation
- Waste-management practices
In Q1 of 2020, we reviewed how we manage waste with around 95% of all office waste now recycled.
Further, we completed our CO2 audit and identified our direct impact as a result of electricity usage, heating, water and transport of employees to work. We have switched to a carbon-neutral electricity provider and to cover remaining emissions we have donated via our compensation partner, Atmosfair, to projects that contribute to a worldwide reduction in CO2. In doing so we have retrospectively compensated for our CO2 emissions in 2019. We will review our 2020 emissions in the first quarter of next year and compensate for these accordingly. As such, we now consider ourselves a carbon neutral company.
At the same time, we recognise that there is more to do. As next steps, 11 Academia Networks is now conducting a supplier audit, so that we understand the environmental impact of those supplying goods and services to us, and can make future purchasing decisions with that information available. Additionally we will be pursuing further measures to better understand and reduce our environmental impact, as well as certification options to ensure that the measures we are taking are the most effective possible.
