Economics & Data Science (EDS) is a two-year master’s degree, entirely taught in English, whose aim is to train economists with a very solid background in statistics and data science techniques. Our students will learn how to combine deep theoretical knowledge of certain markets (finance, health, energy) with the command of statistical, econometrics and data science tools to analyze them.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The first year of the course is mainly devoted to equipe students with background postgraduate knowledge of both economics and quantitative techniques. One the one hand, students will learn some of the workhorse basic models that form the core of modern applied microeconomics and macroeconomics; one the other hand, students will receive a solid background in mathematics for economics, statistical modelling, optimization techniques and programming skills (Paython and R).

In the second year students will deepen their understanding of some markets like energy, health and financial ones and they will expand their quantitative toolbox by attending courses in risk management, economic policy evaluation and big data techniques. The economics and management taught courses will complement the theoretical analysis with real world applications of various quantitative techniques (econometrics, agent-based-models, etc.).

At the end of the course EDS students will have the ability to understand complex economic and financial phenomena and to analyze them in a data-driven logic.

EDS has close links with both public and private firms and organizations. Hence, students are strongly encouraged to apply for internships positions during their second year. A number of Erasmus positions are also available.

Writing up a Master Dissertation is a prerequisite for receiving the degree. The Dissertation can also be written as part of an internship position.

EDS students will be qualified for a range of positions, like:

  • Economic Consultant
  • Data Scientist
  • Economic Analyst in the energy, environment, and health sectors
  • Expert in the field of economic policy evaluation
  • Risk analyst
