Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS)
Regensburg, Germany
The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS, https://www.leibniz-ios.de) in Regensburg is one of the largest and longest-established institutions of its kind in Germany with a distinctly international orientation. It is an independent research facility funded by the Federal Government and the Free State of Bavaria.
The three research departments of IOS (History, Economics, Politics) conduct interdisciplinary research in two major research fields: (1) Institutionalization, De-Institutionalization, Re-Institutionalization, (2) Mobilities and Inequalities. Another focal program is the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Europe and America in the Modern World. Frictions and Transformations of Globality since the 19th Century” established jointly with the University of Regensburg in 2019. You can find more on the institute’s research agenda at https://leibniz-ios.de/en/research/ios-research/research-agenda
The IOS maintains a special library holding a stock of more than 350,000 media units of literature in humanities and social sciences relating to the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It also offers a variety of electronic research services.
