The Faculty of Economics and Management of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg intends to fill a

W1 Junior Professorship in Economics, specifically Microeconomics, (with Tenure Track to a W2 Professorship)

at the earliest possible date.

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile.

The Otto von Guericke University in the state capital Magdeburg is a medium-sized university with excellent connections to numerous research institutions both regionally and globally. The Faculty of Economics and Management is one of the largest faculties, offering a well-defined research agenda and a wide range of German and English-taught study programs.

The junior professorship will represent the field of Microeconomics in both research and teaching. The research focus should be on theory-driven, applied analysis of microeconomic issues. The future research priorities of the junior professorship should be empirically oriented and complement and strengthen the existing focal points of the Faculty of Economics and Management. A contribution to economic, social, or ecological sustainability in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals is expected, as is visible engagement in the university's research cluster SmartProSys and in developing the European University Alliance EU GREEN.

We are looking for a candidate who is distinguished and internationally well-connected in applied microeconomic research. In addition to the usual requirements (relevant and excellent PhD, potential for excellent publications in leading international journals on microeconomic topics, pedagogical aptitude), we expect a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge transfer to the public, and policy advice. The junior professorship will teach in the faculty's German and English bachelor's and master's programs. It will actively contribute to the faculty's "Center of Evidence-based Policy Analysis" (cepa.ovgu.de) and will be interested in transferring research results into policy advice and evaluation.

The junior professorship is initially limited to three years. After a positive interim evaluation, an extension for another three years is planned. After six years, following a positive final evaluation, the position will be converted to a permanent W2 professorship.

Professors with tenure track at OVGU Magdeburg receive appropriate resources and participate in performance-based funding allocation. We view the tenure-track professorship as a career step toward a permanent professorship. Along this path, we aim to support the future position holder with individually tailored development opportunities. We are also happy to assist with finding childcare options or with dual-career couple offerings.

For questions regarding the professorship, please contact the chair of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. Andreas Knabe (andreas.knabe@ovgu.de). More information about the faculty can also be found at fww.ovgu.de

Formal prerequisites for the appointment of Assistant Professors are stated in § 40 of the Higher Education Act for the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt (Hochschulgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt; HSG LSA), the limitation in § 41 (1) HSG LSA.

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is a signatory of the German Diversity Charter. We welcome your application, regardless of gender, cultural and social background, age or sexual orientation. Applications from severely disabled people or people with an equivalent impairment will be given priority in the case of equal suitability, ability and professional expertise. Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg strongly promotes gender equality in all professional areas.
