Description of Doctoral Program: 

The Doctoral Program is offered on a full-time basis.

Years 1&2: Coursework, Seminars & Exams covering: Financial Economic theory, Econometric methods and Research methodology. Following coursework, students need to pass written Comprehensive Exams. 

Years 2–5: Research & Dissertation. PhD candidates focus on developing original research, writing and defending their doctoral thesis.

Research Environment & Resources:

Dedicated Office space, access to databases (such as WRDS, Compustat, CRSP, and I/B/E/S, Refinitiv, S&P Market Intelligence), research interaction in a research-intensive academic environment. Opportunities for research visits at partner universities in Europe, and North America.

Research Positions/Scholarships

We offer up to four PhD scholarships/research positions to outstanding students from all nationalities. The scholarships cover 80%-100% of the tuition fees, and pay approximately €14000 per year before the Comprehensive exams and approximately €16000-18000 per year after the Comprehensive exams, depending on performance. The funding is granted on an annual basis and renewed for up to a maximum five-year period, subject to satisfactory performance. We also provide annual funding for international conferences (approx. €1000 per year).

George M. Constantinides PhD Award, which honors Professor Constantinides, a founding member of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at the University of Cyprus, is intended to provide financial support, up to €10000, for FEM PhD students' research endeavors, including participation in international conferences, research visits for training/collaboration/networking, or data acquisition.


Admission Criteria

Applicants must hold:
•    A Master’s degree from an accredited university with at least “Very Good” / Upper Second classification.
•    Priority is given to candidates with First-Class Honours in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
We strongly encourage applications from a broad range of disciplines, including: Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, and the sciences in general (e.g. Physics). About the Department

The Department of Accounting and Finance aims to attain the highest level of academic excellence in research and teaching. In line with the department’s objectives, the PhD program in Finance trains future academics for research-oriented career abroad. Our PhD graduates in Finance have been placed at leading European universities such as Warwick, Essex, Southampton, Durham, Aston, and AUEB.
