The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Göttingen and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) invite applications for a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W1 NBesO) effective at the earliest possible date:
W1 Professorship in Development Economics with a focus on Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, or Asia (f/m/d)
The professorship will initially be awarded with civil servant status for a period of three years. After a positive evaluation, the employment contract will be extended for up to another three years.
We are looking for team-oriented and committed applicants with a quantitative research agenda and with the potential for outstanding publications in the field of development economics. The successful candidate will become a Research Fellow at the GIGA in Hamburg and contribute there to the research on development economics in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and/or Asia. A research agenda that is socially and politically relevant, and aligns with the GIGA’s “Glob-alisation and Development” research focus as well as the Faculty of Business and Economics’ “Global Change and Development” research focus is essential. The post holder will actively par-ticipate in knowledge transfer activities at the GIGA.
The post holder will be required to teach three hours per week within the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Economics of the Faculty and in particular the new Bachelor’s degree pro-gramme “Sustainable Development Studies” and the Master’s degree programme “Development Economics.” We also expect contributions to the doctoral programme and the Göttingen Graduate School of Social Sciences. The University of Göttingen attaches importance to research-oriented teaching.
Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. Details will be provided upon request.
The position is based at the GIGA in Hamburg; any travel expenses incurred for trips to Göttingen will be covered.
