The Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE – Sustainable Architecture for Finance in Europe – promotes high-quality research and independent policy advice on all aspects dealing with the structure and functioning of the financial system. It is committed to contributing to the strengthening of a sustainable and resilient financial architecture that promotes innovation and serves the needs of the economy and its citizens. More than 100 researchers in the area of finance as well as macro- and microeconomics and law collaborate at SAFE.
The Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE will officially start operating in January 2020. It will seamlessly continue the work of the “Research Center SAFE” which was founded in 2013 as a cooperation of Goethe University Frankfurt and Center for Financial Studies, funded by the research excellence initiative LOEWE of the German State of Hessen. The Research Center SAFE was evaluated by the German Science Council in 2018 and received the highest possible mark (“excellent”) for its research quality and overall concept. On this basis, the Federal and Länder governments decided to admit SAFE as a new independent Leibniz institute to the Leibniz Association and to provide it with long-term public funding. SAFE will continue to be located on the premises of Goethe University Frankfurt.
