Since its founding 52 years ago, TU Dort¬≠mund  Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity has developed a special profile encompassing 16 faculties ranging from science and engineering to social sciences and culture studies. The uni¬≠ver¬≠si¬≠ty has about 33,440 students and 6,500 employees, in¬≠clu¬≠ding 300 professors.

TU Dort¬≠mund Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity has a strong focus on re¬≠search. The uni¬≠ver¬≠si¬≠ty‚Äôs disciplines, e.g. mechanical engineering with its emphasis on production and logistics, physics, biochemical- and chemical engineering, statistics and computer science, as well as education re¬≠search, are well known for their outstanding re¬≠search achievements both nationally and internationally.

Students at TU Dort¬≠mund Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity can choose from classical subjects and in¬≠no¬≠va¬≠ti¬≠ve courses of study such as medical physics or degree programs in spatial planning, statistics and journalism. A particular focus is on teacher training. As one of only a few universities in Germany, TU Dort¬≠mund Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity offers professional teaching qualifications for all types of schools.

TU Dort¬≠mund Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity is driving forward the transformation of the city and the Ruhr area into a high-tech and service location and cultural metropolis. In the immediate vicinity of the campus, the Tech¬≠no¬≠lo¬≠gie¬≠Zen¬≠trum¬≠Dort¬≠mund promotes the economic application of ideas from science. The lively exchange with neighbors in the region, but also with partners in Europe and around the world, is a special enrichment for students, sci¬≠en¬≠tists and all employees.

Of particular importance for the development of the region is the Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), in which TU Dort¬≠mund Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity, the Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity of Duisburg-Essen and Ruhr-Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity Bochum joined forces ten years ago. 120,000 students and 1,200 professors ‚Äď even these few statistics indicate the new size created by the alliance. Since the founding of the UA Ruhr, the Ruhr area has developed into one of the strongest science regions in Germany.
