Job Description

The Department of Economics and Finance at Tennessee State University (an HBCU and land-grant institution) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Economics. The appointment will begin in Spring 2026.

We seek candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in economics, engage in scholarly research leading to publication, advise students, participate in curriculum development, and provide service to the department, college, university, and the broader community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in economics.
  • Maintain an active and productive research agenda, resulting in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Advise and mentor students academically and professionally.
  • Engage in curriculum development and program assessment activities.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
  • Support efforts to recruit and retain students within the Economics and Finance programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to foster interdisciplinary research and external partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research and/or teaching interests aligned with applied economics, development economics, financial economics, public policy, or data analytics.
  • Evidence of prior teaching experience at the college/university level.
  • Experience using technology in teaching (such as online, hybrid, etc.).
  • Experience or strong interest in mentoring students and supporting student success initiatives.
  • Ability to contribute to efforts to expand diversity and inclusion within the field of economics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Economics or Applied Economics from an AACSB-accredited university (ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be awarded by the start date).
  • Evidence of potential for high-quality research and scholarly publications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.
  • Ability to teach core and elective courses in economics (such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and specialized topics).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to working effectively with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students and underrepresented minorities.
