Economics PhD Student in ERC Project “Behavioral-Evolutionary Modelling of Climate Policy”

ICTA

ICTA-UAB is looking to recruit a PhD student (4 year position) as part of a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant entitled “Behavioral-evolutionary analysis of climate policy: Bounded rationality, markets and social interactions” (EVOCLIM). Intensive cooperation among senior and junior researchers is foreseen, guided by the supervision of prof.dr. Jeroen van den Bergh.

The PhD research theme:

The project will study the differences in performance of carbon pricing under various types of bounded rationality of consumers and firms? This will involve comparing carbon taxes and emissions trading. Attention will be given to the innovation, employment and climate impacts of shifting taxes from labor to carbon under bounded rationality? This has been addressed with rational-agent equilibrium models but not yet with behavioral-evolutionary models. The PhD student will develop, in cooperation with a modelling postdoc, models with multiple agents that show bounded rationality and social interactions. In this setting, climate policy instruments, notably carbon pricing, will be tested. The work comprises theoretical and empirical-applied aspects. For the latter, cooperation with another postdoc, working on empirical and experimental economic psychology, is foreseen.
