The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences of Kiel University together with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy invites applications for a

Junior Professorship (W 1) tenure track to W 2 in Behavioral Approaches to Global Problems

with temporary civil service status for an initial period of three years (first phase) to start at the earliest possible time.

The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area Behavioral Approaches to Global Problems in research and teaching.

The junior professorship will be filled according to the Jülich model (leave of absence model). It involves a full-time (100%) assignment to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and a reduced teaching load at the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Social Sciences of Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität). We are looking for an economist with the potential to publish in top international journals, and the willingness to actively contribute and shape the economic policy debate. His / her research must focus on current societal challenges such as social cohesion, immigration, financial instability or climate change from a behavioral perspective and show potential to shape discussions in the research field. Excellence in research is an important prerequisite. The ability to conduct experimental and/or further empirical microeconomic research that is theoretically sound is also expected. As the researchers of the Research Center Global Transformation, in which the position will be integrated, regularly collaborate with political scientists, psychologists and medical scientists, experience in interdisciplinary work is an advantage.    

We aim for all our professors to engage in policy and outreach activities at the Kiel Institute, to contribute to teaching and to the Ph.D. program “Quantitative Economics” at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, to initiate and head research groups, and to participate in international research networks.

The position provides excellent working conditions with maximal academic freedom as well as financial and administrative support for research.

Initial publications successes, international visibility, and experience in obtaining third-party funding is an advantage.

Please refer to the recruitment requirements of § 64 in combination with § 62a of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. After successful evaluation of the first phase of the junior professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of three years (second phase).

After successful evaluation and if the additional requirements of § 62a of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein are met, the aim is to upgrade the professorship to a W 2-Professorship. In addition to the evaluation of the junior professorship, a separate evaluation procedure is carried out at Kiel University, usually during the second phase of the junior professorship, in accordance with the current statutes.
