The department of Economics at Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics is looking for senior lecturers in economics.

 

 

Work description
The work includes teaching and supervising students in economics at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as course planning, course development and course administration. The position also includes competence development time which can be used to do research, and we encourage you to apply for external funding to extend the possibilities to conduct research.

The position also includes participating in development work and joint workplace activities. We value commitment, participation and responsibility. You will spend your working time in Umeå at the Department of Economics.

Requirements
According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person shall qualify for appointment as associate professor (senior lecturer) if he or she has demonstrated educational expertise and holds a doctorate or has attained equivalent academic competence or other professional skills relevant to the subject area of the appointment. The subject area for this position is economics.

Assessment criteria and their relative weights
The main assessment criteria are scientific and pedagogical skills. In the assessment, special and equal weight shall be attached to scientific and pedagogical skills. Great weight is attached to administrative skills, other professional skills and demonstrated cooperation skills.

When assessing scientific competence, special weight shall be placed on the demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality research in international peer-reviewed scientific journals within the subject area of ​​economics. The assessment of scientific competence shall focus on publications and research activities during the past five years in accordance with the business school´s quality assurance system. Special weight shall also be placed on the demonstrated ability to publish in leading field journals and in well-regarded general journals. Great weight shall be placed on the demonstrated ability to apply, and obtain, external research funding.

When assessing pedagogical skills, special weight shall be attached to demonstrated ability and experience of teaching in economics. This shall be demonstrated through teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising students and experience from pedagogical development work. Weight shall be placed on completed higher education teaching training, experience in teaching at the doctoral level and supervision of doctoral students.

When assessing administrative skills, weight shall be placed on the ability to independently organize educational activities, the ability to lead development and quality work within undergraduate and postgraduate education, and research within the subject area of ​​economics.

Weight shall be placed on other professional skills relevant to the work content of the position.

When assessing other skills, personal suitability will be emphasized. The applicant should have good teamwork skills and be able to contribute positively to the department's research, teaching and overall work environment.

Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, and the ability to teach in these languages ​​are an advantage.

The department of Economics
The Department of Economics has about 30 employees, including eight professors, eight associate professors, two assistant professors, and five post-doctoral researchers. The department has a broad research tradition, where the main research areas are Public Economics, Labor Economics, Environmental Economics, and Industrial Organization. Five themes are central to our research: (i) economic policy and behavioral economics; (ii) economic policy and the labor market; (iii) sustainable development; (iv) economic policy and fiscal federalism; and (v) competition and public procurement. This research addresses a broad set of topics including optimal taxation and public expenditure, income formation, household responses to taxation and other economic policies, social accounting, environmental policy, local public economics, public procurement, collusion, and the functioning of pharmaceutical markets. From a methodological perspective, the department’s research reflects a mix of theoretical and empirical contributions. The department is also the host institution of the Erik Kempe Award in Environmental and Resource Economics. The research environment is open, friendly and cooperative.
