STATEC Research is looking for a POST-DOC researcher with experience in productivity analysis to join the research department of the Statistical Office of Luxembourg (STATEC). This is a full-time position based in Luxembourg linked to a new Horizon Europe project titled “Well-being In a Sustainable Economy Revisited (WISER)”. The appointment is for two years.

STATEC Research contributes research to the national policy debate and international scientific community. The team aims to understand Luxembourg's social and economic development in a comparative perspective, focusing primarily on applied research in the fields of entrepreneurship, productivity, and well-being.

The successful candidate will work in the “Well-being and Entrepreneurship Research Unit” under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Sarracino and will contribute to the successful implementation of WISER Work Package 5, “From well-being to productivity and back again: a virtuous circle”. The main responsibility of this position is to contribute to the measurement of well-being efficiency, which reflects society’s ability to transform its resources into subjective well-being, and to determine the drivers of well-being efficiency. The successful candidate will also have the possibility to contribute to other research areas of the WISER project and to the networking activities of STATEC Research.

Main tasks/responsibilities are to:

  • Undertake quantitative research on well-being efficiency and its determinants;
  • Contribute to research on the economic consequences of subjective well-being, especially productivity;
  • Contribute to working papers, executive summaries, and short articles on well-being in Luxembourg, alone and in comparative perspective, over time and across countries;
  • Disseminate research findings to the scientific community and wider audiences, including public officials and policy makers; and
  • Participate in a collaborative research environment, such as outreach activities, team meetings, and seminars.

We seek someone with the following traits:

  • The ability to contribute to the academic literature, using productivity analysis applied to subjective well-being;
  • Knowledge of techniques for the analysis of productivity. Knowledge of frontier and computational methods are an asset;
  • Good organisational skills, intrinsically motivated, and able to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English - the working language of STATEC Research; French and/or German is an advantage.

Candidates should have a PhD with a strong quantitative background, and experience with methods for productivity analysis. Experience and/or interest in subjective well-being and related topics is an advantage. A PhD in economics is a distinct asset.
