Researcher / analyst
The candidate will work directly with Professor Vandewalle and will be involved in an ongoing project in Uganda and a new project in the DRC or Kenya related to firm behaviour and intra-household dynamics. The candidate will be introduced to frontier research and will become an integrated part of an international research team. The candidate will participate in survey design, fund applications, fieldwork (including project supervision and potential data collection), literature reviews, data analysis (mainly using STATA), and writing.
The position is a full-time commitment that combines research work with learning activities and is ideal for a recent graduate interested in doing a PhD in Economics. The appointment begins September 1, 2024, and is renewable for a second year based on mutual agreement.
The work will make the Pre-Doctoral Fellow familiar with the Development Economics literature, and it will aid significantly in gaining experience with advanced empirical and statistical methods.
The pre-doctoral fellow will be part of the Development Economics Research group and will have access to all the seminars and academic and social activities at the economics department and KU Leuven. Fellows typically stay for one or two years before applying to graduate school in Economics.
Applicants should be completing (or have completed) a Master’s degree, have strong quantitative skills, and experience with empirical research methods. Candidates with research experience are strongly preferred. Candidates need not be Economics majors, though they should have a strong interest in and some experience with Economics.
