KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Research Assistants work closelywith Bruegel Fellows to conduct research in the forms of Policy Briefs, Blueprints, Blogs and external publications.

Responsibilities include gathering information; collecting, cleaning, and analysing economic data; producing charts and graphs for publication and presentations; and occasionally taking notes at meetings and events. 

Research Assistants have the opportunity to co-author Bruegel publications, depending on the extent and nature of their contributions.

We offer full-time one-year contracts (renewable based on performance). 


GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills
All applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics or related fields, should possess a solid understanding of economics and demonstrate very strong technical strengths in quantitative economics methods/econometrics.

Proficiency in Python, STATA or R (at least in one of the three), as well as in Excel, is required. Data scraping and data visualization skills (using e.g. plotly and dash packages in Python, or java script) would be useful. 

Applicants must be fluent in English, both written and spoken

Applicants are expected to be able to confidently, autonomously and professionally communicate with Bruegel colleagues and possibly with relevant stakeholders. Versatility, attention to detail and theability to work as a team-player with short deadlines are desired.

Interests
Applicants must have an interest in applied, policy-oriented research in Bruegel’s areas of specialisation, including the functioning of EU policies. Bruegel research areas include: innovation and competition policy, digital economy, climate and energy policy, macroeconomic policy, trade policy, banking, capital markets and financial regulation.

The candidates for this position must have at least one year of proven experience in empirical work.
