We are seeking an experienced Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer in Glasgow for a Structures Advisor position that is considered a critical role within our client’s Scotland office as you will be responsible for supporting the Performance Audit Group (PAG) contract for Transport Scotland.
With significant expertise in road network structures, the Structures Advisor will oversee, review, and audit the delivery of both technical and commercial outputs. This includes ensuring compliance with contractual and industry standards, maintaining high performance levels, and offering expert guidance on structural issues. Working closely with the service delivery team, you will play an essential role in managing and overseeing road network structures.
Performance Audit Group
The Performance Audit Group (PAG) contract, established by Transport Scotland, ensures that the Scottish Trunk Road Network is managed and maintained to the highest standards. PAG provides independent oversight of various contracts, including Design-Build-Finance-Operate (DBFO) agreements, to ensure value for money and compliance with both technical and commercial requirements. By promoting improvements across the network, PAG plays a vital role in supporting Scotland’s connectivity and economic growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of audits, monitoring activities, and reports related to road network structures.
- Coordinate services with other members of the Service Provider’s team.
- Provide expert advice on issues arising from the audit and monitoring of suppliers concerning road network structures.
- Offer advice on issues identified by the Employer related to the management and maintenance of structures.
- Develop and update a strategic audit plan for road structures as required.
- Carry out ad-hoc tasks as instructed by the Employer.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant supplier contracts, industry practices, and design codes.
- Collaborate with the service delivery team to ensure comprehensive investigation, analysis, and reporting to the Employer.
Role Requirements
Essential:
- Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer or equivalent professional qualification.
- Extensive experience in the maintenance, management, and construction of road network structures.
- In-depth knowledge of maintenance practices, management strategies, and construction methods for road network structures.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Transport Scotland standards and relevant codes of practice.
- Experience in coordinating and auditing infrastructure projects.
Education and Experience:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in coordinating large-scale infrastructure maintenance and construction projects.
- Extensive experience in highway structures maintenance is highly beneficial.
