The Department of Economics at Ghent University (Belgium) has 2 vacant positions for a doctoral fellowship in its key research areas ‘banking & finance’, ‘environmental economics’, ‘international trade, investment and migration’, ‘labour economics & welfare’, or ‘macroeconomics, policy and econometrics’ (https://www.ugent.be/eb/economics/en).

YOUR TASKS
The Department of Economics at Ghent University has up to two vacant doctoral fellowship positions. These fellowships are aimed at conducting research within the department’s research domains: Banking & Finance, Environmental Economics, International Economics, Labour Economics and Welfare, or Macroeconomics, Policy and Econometrics. The goal is to obtain a PhD within one of these domains.
In addition to your research activities, you will also take on a number of teaching-related tasks. For these positions, knowledge of Dutch is desirable. Candidates who are immediately available are preferred.
Your responsibilities include:
• Spending the majority of your time on scientific research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation.
• Supporting the teaching activities of the department.
• Supervising students in their bachelor’s or master’s thesis across the various programs in which the department is involved.
• Contributing to the internal and external services of the department.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• You hold a degree of Master of Science in Economics, or a closely related field and belong to the top 20% of your class. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
• An additional advanced or research master degree in economics is an advantage.
• Candidates who do not have a master's degree that was awarded in a country of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or the UK must also submit GRE test scores or GMAT scores (percentile ranking).
• For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
• You have a strong interest in scientific research with a view to obtaining a PhD.
• Teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. are considered an asset.
• You have excellent didactic and communication skills.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
• We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
• Your contract will start on 11/01/2025 at the earliest.
