The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a W2 Professorship for Research on Firms, Labor Markets, and Occupations (Associate Professor) to be appointed as a joint professorship in partnership with the Institute of Employment Research (IAB). The professorship is a full-time position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint a successful researcher who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile, which includes teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at FAU. The successful candidate is expected to become actively involved in administering academic affairs and acquiring third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods. It is desirable that candidates be able and willing to teach in English.

FAU and the IAB expect applicants to have a research profile in the area of applied, econometrically-oriented research on labor markets or occupations, preferably focusing on firms in this research, and a willingness to represent all aspects of these fields.

At the IAB, the professor will be appointed as the head of the research area ‘Establishments and Employment’. Further tasks at the IAB include the acquisition and coordination of third-party funded projects, the development of survey data and linking these to register data, policy advice, and assuming responsibilities in personnel and research management. Experience in these tasks or the willingness to learn this is expected.

The President will appoint the professor as a public servant on a fixed-term contract or under private employment law initially for a period of six years at FAU and will grant the professor an unpaid leave of absence for the employment relationship with IAB. An extension of the cooperation agreement and a possible extension of the term of the position are generally sought. Employment at the IAB is based on the rules governing leadership positions not covered by collective agreements (AT positions) concept of the Federal Employment Agency.

Successful candidates demonstrate excellent academic achievements in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. You may also have acquired the necessary qualifications in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).

Part-time employment at IAB is in principle possible. The place of work is Nuremberg.

FAU and IAB value diversity and therefore welcome all applications, regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion / belief, disability, age, and sexual orientation and identity. Applications from severely disabled persons with the appropriate aptitude are particularly encouraged to apply and will be given preference in the case of otherwise equal aptitude. IAB promotes professional equality between women and men and has been certified as a family-friendly research institute by the Hertie Foundation. The IAB is particularly committed to the compatibility of research and family and supports managers through the concept ‘Leadership in Part-Time Positions’. FAU is a member of the association “Familie in der Hochschule e.V.”; FAU and IAB offer support for dual-career couples.

Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications, list of lectures and courses taught, copies of certificates and degrees, list of third-party funding) online at https://berufungen.fau.de by 23 June 2022, addressed to the Speaker of the School of Business, Economics and Society at the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law.
