President Prabowo Subianto has put forth Destry Damayanti as the singular candidate for the Governor of Bank Indonesia, following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo.
Minister of State Secretariat, Prasetyo Hadi, announced that President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate to lead Indonesia’s central bank, Bank Indonesia. Having been appointed last week acting governor, and only a few weeks after her reappointment as deputy governor, Damayanti is set to replace Perry Warjiyo, who recently stepped down for personal reasons, marking a historic first resignation of a governor from the central bank.
During a press conference held at the Presidential Palace, Minister Prasetyo confirmed that the President had submitted a presidential letter about Damayanti's nomination to the House of Representatives (DPR). As per the process, members of the DPR will conduct a fit-and-proper test to evaluate her candidacy. "So, there is only one name, namely Ms. Destry Damayanti," Prasetyo stated.
The DPR is expected to formally announce the government’s proposal regarding Damayanti’s nomination on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. As of the latest updates, the House had yet to comment on the nomination but is scheduled to announce it publicly.
Destry Damayanti is an accomplished economist, having served as the Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia since 2019. With a background in various financial institutions and her role in the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, she is well-prepared for this pivotal position within the country’s monetary system.
