Geopolitical Alignment, Tensions, and the Global Economy (Measurement and Evidence)

The workshop Geopolitical Alignment, Tensions, and the Global Economy (Measurement and Evidence) is scheduled to occur at the Université Paris-Nanterre. The date of the workshop is Friday, December 4, 2026. The purpose of holding this workshop is to enable different researchers from the social sciences to meet and present new developments related to measurements, models, and empirical studies associated with the evolution of the measurement of geopolitical alignment, and its consequences for the global economy.

Geopolitical dynamics increasingly shape global economic patterns. The use of strategic competition, changes in alliances, conflict and cooperation patterns, trade and financial fragmentation, and changes in institutional settings increasingly influence economic growth, trade, financial flows, inflation, and development paths. By contrast, significant progress has been made in measures to construct quantitative proxies for geopolitical alignment, tension, and conflict, as well as methods to econometrically capture patterns of interdependence, spillovers, and non-linearities in these dynamics. This workshop seeks to offer a platform for these findings to be showcased.

Contributions from any area of the social sciences are invited, including economics, political science, international relations, geography, and other related areas, as long as they adopt a quantitative perspective. Completed papers are invited, including preliminary papers presenting original research still in progress.
