Join the dynamic and growing team of Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) as a Lecturer in Economics. You will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microeconomics and/or behavioural economics, supervise BSc and MSc theses, and contribute to high-quality education. We seek candidates with strong teaching skills and programming experience in R and/or STATA, who are eager to inspire students and make an impact.

Wat ga je doen?
The Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) invites applications for a Lecturer in Economics. The successful candidate will join the Economics Section of the Department.

The Lecturer is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics, including:

  • microeconomics
  • behavioural economics
  • supervision of Bachelor’s and/or Master’s theses

Thesis supervision requires knowledge of statistical software such R and/or STATA. While teaching is currently conducted in English, the ability to teach in Dutch is an advantage.

A part-time appointment is possible, with a minimum of 0.8FTE. The position includes 10% of the time allocated to research and/or teaching innovation, with the remaining time devoted to teaching-related activities, including course preparation. The required starting date is 1st November 2026 at the latest, subject to a valid EU working permit.

Wat breng je mee?
Successful candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • A PhD in Economics (candidates who have submitted their dissertation and are awaiting their defence are also encouraged to apply);
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in higher education, preferably at the university level;
  • Clear potential for excellence in teaching a range of economics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervising BSc and MSc theses;
  • Programming skills in R and/or STATA;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English;

A University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, Dutch: BKO) or a willingness to obtain this qualification.

  • A fixed-term appointment as Lecturer for up to 4 years
  • A full-time gross salary between €4.728,- and €6.433,- (scale 11 according to the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
