The Department of Economics consists of the Institute of Economics, the Institute of Public Economics and the Graz Schumpeter Centre, and is also an integrated part of the interdisciplinary Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change. Research at the department includes numerous economic areas with a strong empirical component, for instance in climate and environmental economics, economic measurement, experimental game theory, international economics, social policy and labor market. The Centers come with plenty of expertise in the acquisition of competitive third-party funds.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a
Professor (f/m) of Climate and Environmental Economics
(40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date October 1st 2017 )
The professorship in Climate and Environmental Economics is a central professorship within the Department of Economics and offers the attractive opportunity to collaborate closely with the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change. The successful applicant is expected to conduct politically relevant empirical research with solid theoretical foundations, contributing to the university core research area "Environment and Global Change". Of particular importance is the question of coping with climate and environmental change from an economic perspective such as mitigation and adaptation, dealing with risk and uncertainty, valuation of environmental effects, or climate finance. We expect the successful candidate to cooperate scientifically with other members of the department, including the Wegener Center.
Requirements for employment
- Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad
- Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Economics
- Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject and profile of the professorship
- Policy relevant empirical research with solid theoretical foundations, demonstrated by a strong publication record in leading international journals
- Collaboration in international research networks
- Experience with the acquisition and administration of externally funded research grants at national or international level
- Experience with the supervision of bachelor's, master's, and PhD theses
- Competence in leadership and gender mainstreaming
The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills. The successful candidate will teach particularly in the field of Climate and Environmental Economics in our bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs (Economics and Environmental System Sciences) in German and/or English, and he or she will contribute to the continuous improvement of our existing programs and to the development of our PhD program.

The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 67.797,80 gross per year (14 monthly salaries). Salary subject to negotiation.
