The Master's programme Advanced Applied Economics is generalist and research oriented. It provides students with knowledge and skills in both applied and theoretical economics allowing them to understand and analyse key current economic challenges and to develop adequate support for private and public actors' decisions.
At the end of the two-year programme students may join a PhD programme or work as an economist or data analyst in public institutions, international organizations, consulting firms or in the research and strategy departments in the private sector.
Curriculum:
The first year of the programme includes courses in the core areas of economic modeling and econometrics. The goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts and techniques used in economics, both at the theoretical and empirical levels. Home projects, lectures about research methodology and interventions of professionals to present academic and non academic careers in economics complete the list of courses in economics and econometrics and prepare students to the professional environment.
Courses in the first year:
- Core economic models in microeconomics, macroeconomics
- Core quantitative methods in econometrics (microeconometrics I and II and time series)
- Software: Python, R and latex
The second year of the program is organized into two parts.
- The first part of the year includes advanced thematic courses in industrial organization, environment and energy; social choice and public policy; labor economics; macroeconomics and international economics.
- The second part of the year is fully dedicated to a research internship and to a supervised master thesis.

Skills and opportunites:
At the end of the master's programme, the students will have acquired the necessary skills to pursue careers requiring a high level of expertise in economics, in the private sector, international organizations, public institutions, and of course, academics. Interested students may also pursue a doctorate degree.
Entry requirements:
BA Economics, BS Mathematics.
Candidates must have demonstrated certain abilities and interest in subjects related to modeling: mathematics; statistics; econometrics; microeconomics; macroeconomics...

Students coming from the European Union, Andorra, Switzerland and Monaco or with a diploma from these countries need to apply via the National centralized platform MonMaster (https://www.monmaster.gouv.fr).

Practical information:
Courses are is fully taught in English.
The programme is joint with the University of Caen Normandy and the University of Rouen Normandy. Courses are given on the campus of the University of Caen, except for 2 days per week in the second year where they are given on the campus of the University of Rouen (commuting expensive covered by the Universities).
