Los Angeles, CA, USA – July 31 – August 3, 2023: The Gateway to Global Aging Data is hosting a four-day team-based Research Hackathon for early-career investigators focused on finding and sharing insights from large, rich, and complex aging data around the world.

There will be three days of intense, team-based data analysis and presentation of findings to a panel of judges on the fourth day. Participants will be grouped into teams based on their background and the challenge chosen. Knowledgeable researchers, survey producers, and experienced programmers will guide and support each team. Our team of coaches and experts include: Dr. Alden Gross from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lindsay Kobayashi and Dr. Kenneth M. Langa from the University of Michigan, Dr. Miguel Arce Rentería from Columbia University Medical Center, Professor David Richter from Freie Universität Berlin, Professor Jurgen Maurer from the University of Lausanne, and Dr. Jinkook Lee from the University of Southern California. Prizes will be given to the winning team of each challenge, and winning team members will be invited to submit a full proposal for pilot research grants.

The Hackathon is free to join, and travel scholarships covering accommodations are available.

Two challenges available:

  1. Disparities in late-life cognition and dementia risk across race/ethnicity, gender, and urbanicity, and their underlying pathways
  2. Cross-national comparisons of late-life cognition, dementia risk, and risk factors

Interested participants should submit their application form along with their 1-page research proposal and CV by April 30, 2023. Accepted participants will be notified by May 31, 2023.

Application forms can be submitted at tinyurl.com/gatewayhackathon2023.
