PhD Summer Institute in International Trade & Industrial Organisation
College of Business, Government & Law, Flinders University
March 15 and 16, 2023
Flinders University, Bedford Park Campus, South Australia
The College of Business, Government & Law at Flinders University invites PhD students in the field of international trade (JEL-Classification F0 to F2) and industrial organisation (JEL-Classification L0 to L5) to present their work at the PhD Summer Institute. The organisers are Ilke Onur from Flinders University and Onur Koska from University of Canterbury. The host institution, Flinders University, is house to two world-renowned research centres, Australian Industrial Transformation Institute (AITI) and Centre for Social Impact (CSI-F) which are central to application and design of policy following cutting edge research in international trade and industrial organisation.
The objective of the Summer Institute is to provide PhD students in the two fields with a platform for discussing their ideas with both fellow PhD students and senior scholars. Each student will be given at least 45 minutes of presentation and discussion time. Students are not required to present an already completed paper or paper draft but may also report on the progress of their research strategies. As it is also an objective of the PhD Summer Institute that students receive feedback at an early stage of their PhD project, PhD students of all years are strongly encouraged to participate. Both theoretical and empirical research in international trade and industrial organisation is welcome.
Participating senior researchers will be:
Professor Frank Stähler, University of Tübingen
Associate Professor Ilke Onur, Flinders University
Dr Onur Koska, University of Canterbury
Dr Rong Zhu, Flinders University
Associate Professor Tony Cavoli, University of South Australia
Associate Professor Bilgehan Karabay, RMIT Melbourne
We would like to advise that the PhD Summer Institute will be succeeded by the Australasian Trade Workshop that will be hosted by the James Cook University on March 18 and 19, 2023 (ATW16, see https://www.jcu.edu.au/college-of-business-law-and-governance/australasian-trade-workshop-2023). PhD students accepted for presentation at the PhD Summer Institute are also accepted to attend ATW16.
There is no registration fee, but we are unable to offer any further financial assistance to participants. We will provide recommendations for accommodation, but participants will be required to book all travel and accommodation independently.
Please submit your application for presentation before February 10, 2023 in pdf format to ilke.onur@flinders.edu.au or onur.koska@canterbury.ac.nz. Your application should include the title of your presentation, an outline of your research ideas and/or a paper draft. You may also attach a letter of support from your PhD supervisor.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the organisers via e-mail. We look forward to receiving your submission.
