The American Economic Association (AEA) has announced its newly elected officers for the year 2027.
The American Economic Association (AEA) has announced the results from its 2026 Election of Officers, naming a new leadership team for 2027. The upcoming president-elect is Pinelopi (Penny) Koujianou Goldberg, the William Nordhaus Professor of Economics and Global Affairs at Yale University. She was also recognised with the Jean-Jaques Laffont Prize in 2025. In her application, Goldberg emphasizes the need to address the evolving landscape of economics influenced by advancements in technology, such as artificial intelligence.
Joining her in leadership are Stefano DellaVigna and Serena Ng, who will serve as vice-presidents. DellaVigna, the Daniel E. Koshland, Sr. Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, aims to foster inclusivity and efficient research norms within the AEA. Ng, Edwin W. Rickert Professor of Economics at Columbia University, plans to support research integrity through better data archiving and mentoring initiatives, particularly for junior members.
The Executive Committee will also include Francisca Antman (University of Colorado Boulder) and Peter J. Klenow (Stanford University), both of whom are committed to strengthening outreach and support for early-career economists and enhancing data infrastructure relevant to empirical research.
Goldberg articulated her vision of addressing challenges facing economics, including preserving research integrity while adapting to modern technological advancements and diversifying the profession to include various perspectives and methods.
This new leadership takes office at a critical time, as the economics profession navigates a tightening job market and the integration of new technologies in research and teaching.
