Economists Olivier Blanchard (MIT), Jordi Galí (CREI/CEPR/NBER), and Michael Woodford (NBER/CEPR/CESifo) have been awarded the prestigious BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards in Economics, Finance, and Management for their contributions to modern macroeconomic analysis.

The trio were recognized for their establishment of rigorous foundations for studying business cycle fluctuations and their development of the New Keynesian paradigm. Their model integrates monopolistic competition and nominal and real rigidities into dynamic general equilibrium models with rational expectations, analyzing the effects of monetary and fiscal policy on economic activity, unemployment, and inflation. The laureates' work has significantly influenced central banks' monetary policy decisions globally and has become a key component of economic teaching. 

The multidisciplinary panel of evaluators praised their groundbreaking research, which emphasizes the role of expectations in economic decision-making and has guided central banks in designing effective monetary policies, especially during times of crisis. 

The awards, established in 2008, aim to recognize contributions that expand knowledge within a discipline or bridge interdisciplinary areas, acknowledging the crucial role of knowledge in addressing contemporary challenges.
