Founded in 1984 as a private non-profit university in Turkey the Bilkent University has become a leading university in the region. Its main purpose is to create a center of excellence in higher education and research. Bilkent is an acronym which in Turkish means "city of learning and science". The academic institution offers programs in art, business administration, economics, education, engineering, humanities, law, and sciences.  The mission of the Bilkent University is to provide an environment of learning and intellectual growth to serve human welfare and foster peace. Furthermore, the institution assists students in order to develop critical, analytical and independent critical minds to become competent, creative and responsible leaders.
