Center for Mathematical Economics, Bielefeld University

The Center for Mathematical Economics (German: Institut für Mathematische Wirtschaftsforschung, IMW) is a research center at Bielefeld University. Our research focuses mainly on Mathematical Economics in a broad sense; in the spirit of a famous scientific journal, we aim to work for the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. The Center's current research covers classic economic areas such as Game Theory, Decision Theory, Computational Economics, General Equilibrium Theory and what we call Mathematical Finance with sound economic foundations. We also believe in the usefulness of our methods for other, related sciences, and have thus opened up to collaborations with biologists and linguists. The Center has strong international collaborations. On the master level it is a partner in an Erasmus Mundus program together with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Università Ca'Foscari Venezia, and Université catholique de Louvain (QEM). Furthermore, cooperations all over the world - emphasized by numerous international researchers visiting the center as well as by researchers from the center presenting their results abroad - acknowledge the international spiri/t./
