Institute of Economics, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

The Institute of Economics was founded in 1996 as a result of the merger of the Department of Economics and Faculty of Economics and Administration FEA, with the purpose of hosting core activities of teaching, researching and extension programs of the UFRJ. The integration of a variety of disciplines in undergraduate and graduate programs builds what is the most important characteristic of the institute: the variety of training and theoretical perspectives of the professors and students of the faculty. The main purpose of the Institute of Economics of UFRJ is to present and discuss the main paradigms that constitute modern economic theory and inform the field about the interdisciplinary boundaries, analytical tools, explanations of economic reality and the clashes between propositions. Being one of the centers of excellence in teaching and research in economics, the Institute plays an important role in the training of high-level public and private institutions in the country and in the production of theoretical and applied relevance.
