Institute of Energy Economics (EWI) at the University of Cologne

The EWI is dedicated to research and teaching in the field of energy economics, and to the creation of scientific studies for the energy industry and energy policy makers. The institute works with detailed computer-based models of the European gas and electricity markets developed by the institute, and also with modern empirical methods in applied industrial economics. A priority at the EWI is the education of young academics. This mainly takes the form of teaching in energy economics, an elective subject for the Diplomas, Bachelor and Master Degrees from the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne, and in the ongoing education of doctoral candidates for the Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences. EWI is also publisher of the "Zeitschrift für Energiewirtschaft", a journal of applied energy-economics, and it maintains an extensive library dedicated to the subject of energy economics. The EWI is an initiative of the University of Cologne and a non-profit society of benefactors including more than forty organisations, associations and companies. The EWI is supported by an independent, non-profit limited company and receives financial support and donations from various partners, including the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the University of Cologne, and the companies E.ON and RWE.
