Professor Hanna Hottenrott, head of the ZEW Research Department "Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics", has been appointed to the 2026 Fellowship Programme of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). The appointment was announced by the ZEW in a press release.
As a Fellow, Hottenrott will collaborate with other experts to advise the Commission on crucial issues such as technological transformation, geopolitical changes, and the development of the European internal market. "I am delighted about this opportunity to contribute our research findings directly to European policymaking processes through the DG GROW fellowship," expressed Hottenrott. She emphasized her eagerness to gain insights into the workings of the European Commission and contribute to enhancing Europe’s innovative capacity.
ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach congratulated Hottenrott on her appointment, stating, "The fact that the Commission is drawing on her expertise shows how important scientific evidence has become for a future-oriented industrial and internal market policy." Wambach noted that Hottenrott's contribution would be invaluable in ensuring that the internal market remains competitive.
The DG GROW Fellowship Programme is designed to integrate scientific expertise into core EU policy areas, enabling fellows to work closely with the Chief Economist Unit of the Directorate-General. This initiative strengthens the exchange of knowledge between research and policy-making, facilitating timely responses to contemporary economic challenges.
