PhD Scholarship in Media Economics
A fully funded PhD scholarship is available in the economics of media, with a focus on the impact of local news (TV, newspapers, social media) on the accountability of local bureaucracy such as local police departments, local politicians and elected municipal councils. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest or background in economics or political science with a specialisation in applied economics and or political economy.
A willingness to engage in empirical research is essential. The project will provide the opportunity to work with newly collected data on local television in the US and to study how differential exposure to media affect police behaviour, crime reporting, and individual perceptions about crime, among other topics. The candidate will have the opportunity to be at the frontier of the empirical research on these topics and to gain experience with text analysis and causal inference techniques. The successful candidate will conduct a research assistantship under the supervision of Prof. Nicola Mastrorocco. Please email Prof. Nicola Mastrorocco at email@example.com for further details. Closing date 31st April 2021.
