Workshops

Wednesday, 21 August (early morning), to Friday, 23 August 2024 (after award dinner).

As last year, based on the workshop presentations there will be a special issue of the European Journal of Political Economy, this year on “Political Trust, Decentralisation and Elections” (tbc). Papers may be empirical, experimental or theoretical.

The goal of the (www.rucam.nl) workshop/conference is (i) to learn about analytical modelling approaches in "Political Trust, Decentralisation and Elections”; (ii) to promote the exchange of research ideas in empirical and analytical political economy; and (iii) create a network of researchers.

The workshop/conference consists of

  • Model theory teaching by Stanley Winer (professor, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada) and Otto Swank (professor, Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands) in the mornings;
  • Research presentations (45 min.) by participants in the afternoons, with Prof Winer and Prof Swank being present;
  • Evening activities (1. panel on research strategies in political economy or on political trust and populism; 2. cooking workshop with gala dinner; 3. award dinner).

The model theory teaching: analytical modelling approaches to understanding democracy: Topic 1: Political Competition and Decentralisation; Topic 2: Political Trust and Elections.

Your research presentations: You will present your own paper and benefit from feedback from a discussant and from the experts. We welcome empirical, experimental and theoretical papers from a wide range of topics such as (but not limited to) the economics and politics of public and non-market decision-making, political economy, public policy and the economics of institutions. Your discipline could be economics, political science, another social science or physics.

The cooking workshop: We’ll cook our own gala dinner. We’ll be split in groups to prepare parts of our own dinner (soup, entrée, main course(s) and desert) and then enjoy it together.
