Hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. This conference explores how industrial policies interact with international finance, capital flows, and global supply chains. Deadline: Feb 15, 2026 | Dates: May 7–8, 2026 | Location: Atlanta, GA

Conference Overview Industrial policy has returned to the forefront of economic policymaking. From semiconductor subsidies to green energy incentives, governments are actively shaping their economies. Yet, these policies unfold within a deeply interconnected global economy where international finance and trade flows respond to—and shape—policy outcomes.

This conference brings together researchers in international economics, financial economics, and macroeconomics to discuss how financial forces interact with industrial policies to shape patterns of production, trade, and international integration.

Key Topics We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions on topics including:

  • The role of financial frictions in shaping industrial policy effectiveness.
  • How industrial policies affect international capital flows and exchange rates.
  • Financial constraints and firm participation in global value chains.
  • Trade finance, export credit, and the financial infrastructure of international trade.
  • Strategic trade policy in the presence of financial market imperfections.
  • International spillovers of domestic industrial policies.
  • Subsidies, tariffs, and their interaction with multinational firm financing.
