XI Transatlantic Workshop on the Economics of Crime

Amsterdam, 26-27 September  2019

This 11th workshop will continue the sequence of Economics of Crime workshops in Paris (2009), Bonn (2010), Torino (2011), Rotterdam (2012), Frankfurt (2013), Milan (2014), London (2015), Stockholm (2016), Philadelphia (2017) and Paris (2018).

It will be held at TI & NSCR in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 26-27 September, 2019.

We aim to bring together researchers from both sides of the Atlantic to present and discuss their work, allowing for an in-depth interaction between those working on the empirical and theoretical analysis of crime and illegal behavior.

The workshop will consist of 10 to 12 contributed papers and two keynote lectures to be given by Imran Rasul (UCL) and Patrick Sharkey (NYU).

This year’s theme will focus on prevention of crime over the life cycle but is not limited to this topic. Other suggested topics covered include the following:

• Judicial decisions

• Social prevention of crime and violence

• Early childhood interventions

• Evaluation of police crime reduction strategies

• Re-entry and rehabilitation interventions

• Guns/weapons (and related policies) and crime

• Social interactions, networks, and crime

• Crime and the labor markets

• Economic crises, poverty, inequality and crime

The workshop is generously funded by the NWO (www.nwo.nl/en), TI (www.tinbergen.nl), and the NSCR (https://www.nscr.nl/en/)

We invite researchers to submit a paper (in PDF) by sending an e-mail to TWEC2019@gmail.com . The submission deadline is May 1st, 2019. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by June 15th 2019. We will provide hotel accommodation and meals for presenters and limited funding is available to cover travel expenses (economy class).

The 2019 Organizing Committee is:  Roberto Galbiati (Sciences Po); Randi Hjalmarsson (University of Gothenburg) Olivier Marie (EUR, UM, & TI); Paolo Pinotti (Bocconi); Aurelie Ouss (UPenn), Emily Owens (UC, Irvine)
