Following highly successful Easter and Summer Schools in previous years, the Centre for International Macroeconomic Studies (CIMS) in the School of Economics, University of Surrey will run a 4-day Course on Macroeconomic Modelling and Policy, 6-9 April, 2021. The deadline for application is 15 March 2021 although places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
This course is aimed at MSc, MRes and PhD students, early researchers, and research staff from central banks, ministries and the private sector, all with some prior experience of macroeconomic modelling. Its contents differ from the CIMS summer school courses, which are usually held in September. The Easter school is focused on a shorter list of themes, some of which not commonly found in summer schools offered by most economics departments.
Given the spread of the Coronavirus, we have decided to have a Virtual Easter school (online) this year. This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our participants, our colleagues and all those involved with the Easter School.
Applications are now open for CIMS Easter school 2021.
A basic prior knowledge of Matlab will help and participants should have their own copy of Matlab.
This year, as part of the CIMS Easter school, this course will cover:
- Inequality in incomplete markets - taught by K. Storesletten
- Collateral and repo markets - taught by M. Pascoa
- Optimal fiscal policy - taught by R. Oikonomou
- DSGE modelling for emerging economies - taught by P. Levine and M. Mirfatah.
Online delivery method:
- The course will be conducted using Zoom platform.
- The university and the lecturers have extensive experience with online teaching and have state-of-the-art systems to do so as well as being able to deliver highly interactive lectures. Though we will do our best to record all the sessions, we are expecting participants to attend them live to enable them to interact with lectures and ask questions.
- Participants will be sent computer codes, lecture notes, and slides ahead of time. Participants will also receive direct assistance before the Easter school starts in order to set up all the systems ahead of the online events.
