This year´s Heidelberg Health Economics Summer School, a high-level, full week program offered by the Institute for Innovation & Valuation in Health Care (InnoVal-HC) under the auspices of the Heidelberg University, will address the role of (health) economic evaluation in the regulatory context of formal Health Technology Assessments (HTAs).

The Summer School 2024 has been designed to offer a high-level forum for health care decision makers, health economists, clinician scientists, and advanced PhD students, to discuss the appropriate role, current use, and limitations of economic evaluations to inform health technology assessments (HTAs), with a view towards future improvement.
The program will be of particular interest and relevance for specialists in the fields of market access, pricing, reimbursement, clinical research and development, and early value assessment.

The Summer School will address the most important recent developments in the worlds of HTA and health economic evaluation – it will be practice-orientated with strong theoretical grounding, combining international policy-relevance with a state-of-the art high-level scientific program. Major topics addressed will be illuminated from an economic and social science perspective, including country-specific HTA case studies to specifically address examples such as orphan medicinal products, advanced therapy medicinal products, the evaluation of medical devices and diagnostics, or personalized medicine.
A high-level faculty of experienced experts and practitioners from the fields of research & development, HTA, market access, pricing and reimbursement, health economics, industrial economics, and medical ethics, as well as the limited number of participants (30 plus faculty and presenters), will allow for an intense exchange in the state-of-the-art conference center NOBIS Brunico–Bruneck in South Tyrol / Italy.

In addition to an intense scientific program, dedicated to “New Perspectives for Health Economics & Health Technology Assessments (HTAs)”, participants will be invited to an evening event, including a guided tour of the Bruneck-Brunico Castle with its Messner Mountain Museum. One day of the scientific program will take place at the LUMEN museum & event space on the summit plateau of the Kronplatz (2,275m above sea level), surrounded by spectacular views of the Italian Dolomites.
