Research Assistant (PhD Student) position (m-f-d)
for a fixed term of 3 years starting from 01.04.2026.
Remuneration will be determined based on job duties and responsibilities and will be aligned with the fulfillment of listed personal requirements, up to pay grade 13 under the TV-L (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder – 'German Public Service Pay Agreement for the Federal States').
Job Responsibilities:
- to do research in macroeconomics, relevant to the chair’s fields of interest (growth and development)
- participation in further scientific training, e.g., the “Central-German Doctoral Program Economics Dresden-Halle-Jena-Leipzig-Magdeburg”
- to conduct courses under the chair’s guidance for Bachelor’s and Master’s students
- to assist with correcting exams
- to mentor students’ seminar papers and final theses
- administrative support
- there is the opportunity to obtain your own scientific qualification by completing a doctoral degree
Requirements:
- university degree M. Sc. in economics (or equivalent level) with final grade “good” or better
- very good knowledge of general quantitative macroeconomics and applied econometrics
- Additional knowledge in growth theory and empirics, development economics, labor economics, and/or international economics is desirable.
- very good command of English
- interest in research and teaching, as well as in further academic qualification (doctorate)
- German language skills are desirable and an advantage, particularly with regard to teaching and participation in academic self-governance, but are not a mandatory requirement
